The houpplelande is a 14th and 15th century gown. It has a long, full body and flaring sleeves, and is usually belted tightly above the waist. Typically the neck is open in a V to the belt, with the kirtle worn underneath visible through the gap. The sleeves were often dagged – cut into long tongues – and lined in a contrasting fabric.
